Do you think you can? A word from Henry Ford

There is some truth to what Henry Ford is saying here. But thinking positively that we can do something is not the sum of the Christian life. There is more, and I will discuss it in my next blogpost.

In the meantime, enjoy this quote from one of our industrial titans.

Living life authentically - e.e. cummings

The New Year is a time for new beginnings. But those new beginnings will come to naught if we're not going in the right direction. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “If you board the wrong train, it is no use running along the corridor in the other direction.”
So commencing this week and continuing throughout the month of January, I want to help set you in the right direction for your new beginnings. That way, not only will you be going in the right direction, but you'll have a very sturdy railway car to travel in. The weekly topics we'll cover are: living authentically, getting your mind right, and pursuing your calling.

Walking in a Cloud of Gratitude

As we go through life with all its challenges, heartaches and stresses, it’s often hard to be grateful. And with the 24-7 on demand, online world we also inhabit, we are so easily swept into the trending currents, flowing ever faster downstream to where we really want to be.

It’s hard to stop and enjoy the scenery. Let alone be grateful. But to preserve our sanity, reclaim our inner peace and be fully human, we must.

So I’d like to share five thoughts that, I hope, will help you walk in a cloud of gratitude.

Spend time in reflection.

Take some time each day to pause and reflect upon all that is good in your life, especially those simple things we often take for granted, like the gift of waking up another day. Time spent like this each day doesn’t have to be long, especially at first. But it must be consistent. May I suggest you start by carving out 10 minutes from your busy day to begin reflecting? For me, the best time for this is in the early morning...

5 reasons why depending upon God in life is a smart thing to do

2 minute read

"Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless."

Bertrand Russell, British philosopher, atheist

As you take this time to reassess your life and move toward fulfilling your life's purpose, your life's dream that may have been on your heart for decades, a lot could happen along the way. Your doing deep introspection and then plunging ahead with something new, extraordinary is a scary, challenging, but oh-so-rewarding journey.  As you strive toward your next, best life, by its very nature this process may knock you off kilter a bit, take you down rabbit holes, show-up with a companion called failure. So why not minimize these stresses? By sincerely putting yourself in God's hands? He will help. When you do, here are 5 things you can expect:

  1. You have a stability that nothing can shake – political, cultural, or societal upheaval. Political parties come and go. Cultural fads wax and wane. What we once held as truth --...

Old men ought to be explorers

Here and there does not matter

We must be still and still moving

Into another intensity

For a further union, a deeper communion

["East Coker" from the Four Quartets by T.S. Eliot]

Out of the blue, it hit. Hit me hard. I felt so deflated, sucked of energy. So much so I had to take a day off work that Wednesday, just to regroup.

Seemed so strange to me, as it had never happened quite like this before. Because that Wednesday, Dec. 2nd, was 15 years to the day that my husband, Steve, had been called home to be with his Lord.

Maybe it was because 15 years seemed like some sort of milestone. I really don’t know. All I knew was, I had to take a step back from the normal tempo of daily life. And pause to ponder, experience, and live through all that was seeping up from inside. I guess it’s true that even after all this time, grief takes you on its own...
