The pandemic of weariness

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Are you tired and weary, too?

We are a tired and weary people. I see weariness all around me. For we pandemic and vax skeptics, the fear didn’t phase us, but the weariness got us. So, in a sense, those in power won at least a momentary victory.

A few days ago, I was speaking to a friend who is a career sherpa; that is, she helps people navigate through their career. She has observed a real sense of weariness all around. People are tired of change, as the radical life changes decreed by those in power, using the pandemic as a tool to gain greater control, to force us to give up our liberties of freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, freedom...

It's a new day

Today marks a new day in the history of this blog. (Been blogging here since 2016.)

Since the start of this blog, I've written about a lot of things: entrepreneurship, branding for Christian entrepreneurs, and midlife women, to name but a few topics. For the most part, my approach throughout all of these topics has been one of formalized teaching, as after all, that's a main part of who God created me to be, a teacher. And while it's certainly not a bad approach, I've recently come to the realization that there is a better way to encourage you and to equip you as you travel your own journey in this life.

That new approach? A more relatable, personable one, where I share my thoughts, write about my strengths & foibles, a slice of life. But lest you think these posts will be yet another addition to the myriad self-serving FOMO-fluff posts we are all inundated with, you'd be mistaken. Because remember, I am still a teacher at heart. I still have a very strong drive to...

What is my unique life purpose?

Photo by Robert Linder on Unsplash

“A cock must crow, a mole dig, to the glory of God.”  --C.S. Lewis
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added  to you.”

You are gifted

First, you must know that you were created for a purpose I don’t mean just the big, overarching purpose of living for God, although that is certainly true and anything you do must start there. I also mean your particular vocation, your calling. God has gifted you with a unique set of gifts to be used for His purpose, to bring Him glory, to be his hands and feet in the world. Whatever our gifts, we should rejoice in them, knowing that a perfect God planned it perfectly.
It’s so easy – especially for we women--to get into the comparison game. And the way this game is played, it comes out in one of two ways:  either we are the ones who fall short as we compare...

A New You in ’22: Having the right mindset

christian life jesus love Jan 26, 2022

In this blogpost, we’ll be looking at Colossians 3:1-17. It has a lot to tell us about who we are in Christ and Christian living.

Set your minds on things above

"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your[a] life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." (Colossians 3:1-4)
Here Paul tells us that if we’ve been raised with Christ, we are to seek things and set our minds upon things that are above. That’s because we have also died with Christ. In Christ, we’ve died to our former worldly lives and have been raised to a new life in Christ.
As believers, we’re to cede control of everything to Christ. This is not...

Do you think you can? A word from Henry Ford

There is some truth to what Henry Ford is saying here. But thinking positively that we can do something is not the sum of the Christian life. There is more, and I will discuss it in my next blogpost.

In the meantime, enjoy this quote from one of our industrial titans.

Living authentically: true identity

The New Year is a time for new beginnings. But those new beginnings will come to naught if we're not going in the right direction. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “If you board the wrong train, it is no use running along the corridor in the other direction.”
So commencing this week and continuing throughout the month of January, I want to help set you in the right direction for your new beginnings. That way, not only will you be going in the right direction, but you'll have a very sturdy railway car to travel in. The weekly topics we'll cover are: living authentically, getting your mind right, and pursuing your calling.
In this post, we'll take a look at living authentically in your true identity.

Will the "doormats" inherit the earth?

Inspired by a sermon by the Reverend Fred Hope, pastor of Rockville Presbyterian Church, Wadmalaw Island, SC

 Who, me meek?

Merriam-Webster:

Meekness: the quality or state of being meek: a mild, moderate, humble, or submissive quality

The above definition from Merriam-Webster about sums up what we understand about meekness. And this understanding we bring to our reading of the Scriptures, specifically Matthew 5:5:

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” [Matthew 5:5]

 And Psalm 37:11:

“But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.” [Psalm 37:11]

But does this understanding accurately describe who we are in Christ? And just as important, does this understanding truly capture the intent of these Scriptures? Let’s get started.

 First, some historical background

In the 4th Century, when the Bible was translated into Latin, the Hebrew word (as in Psalm 37)...
